Welcome to the Mawsley Walking Club

The group have been walking for a couple of years now; our main aim is to enjoy ourselves but also to introduce others the countryside via footpaths, bridleways and byways, mainly within a 50 mile radius of Mawsley with the walks generally been 6-7 miles long.

During the summer months we walk midweek in the early evening every fortnight, these walks are local and are generally 2-4 miles in length. Keep an eye on the Mawsley newsletter, and forum for details of these shorter walks.
Should you require assistance, with any aspect of the club, or details of our walks please get in touch with either Pam or myself, we will be only be too pleased to help.

This only leaves us to welcome you, and hope that you enjoy the countryside and company as much as we do.

FAQs

Where do you meet, and how do you get there?

We meet at Broughton Road, Mawsley in the lay-by. We will normally share cars to get to the walks start point. We leave promptly at 9.30am.

What should I bring on the walk?

You should consider bringing the following items.

Comfortable walking boots (not trainers)
Waterproof jacket & over trousers.
Warm clothing - plenty of layers.
Packed lunch (Inc high energy food)
Water (hot drinks recommended in winter)
Walking trousers (not jeans)
Gloves, hat, scarf.

First aid kit, and any medication you would normally take.
Sun glasses/ sun cream.

Do I need to be able to read a map?

No. Each walk is led by a walk leader who will guide you along the route and will have the correct maps, and navigation equipment for your walk . If you would like to learn about map reading and navigation talk to a walk leader.

Do you walk in bad weather?

Please bear in mind that our weather can change quickly, even on the brightest days the weather can catch you out. We will walk in all but the severest weather. We would likely cancel or change a walk at short notice for the following types of weather. Ice, snow, dense fog and heavy persistent rain, or if we feel ground conditions will create an unacceptable risk to walkers. If in doubt give the walk coordinators a call on the morning/evening of the walk.

Can I bring my dog on a walk?

Dogs are permitted on our walks. Responsibility and liability for the dog and its behavior lies with the owner at all times. Dogs must be kept under control. It is the owner's responsibility to make themselves aware of and comply with any laws and regulations applying to dogs in the area being visited. If in doubt about the suitability of the walk for the dog, contact the walk co-ordinator.

Who are the walk leaders?

All of our walks leaders are volunteers from within the group. Although it is not expected that every member will lead a walk, those that do are respected for their vital contribution to the walks programme, without which there would be no club.

If you would like to volunteer to lead a walk in the next programme or have ideas for a future walk, please contact the walks co-coordinator (next years programme is compiled in November each year) If you have never led a walk before, why not have a go? It isn’t as difficult as you might think and most people that do lead one for the first time go on to lead many more.

Health And Safety Notice

All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and walking is no exception. In spite of the safety of members being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into activities the walker appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take reasonable steps to eliminate or minimize the potential for an accident to arise.

Although walking is a very low risk activity you are responsible for your own safety when walking Walkers join in these activities at their own risk. The walk coordinators or walk leaders will not accept liability for any accidents which may occur.
